Vascular Workshop
Training critical skills for Oncosurgeons
Malabar Cancer Centre was founded in Thalassery in recognition of the needs of patients suffering from cancer in northern Kerala. What began as a centre for accessible oncological care over two decades ago has transformed today into a premier high volume institute providing cutting edge cancer therapy. The institute boasts excellent academic credentials with numerous publications and postgraduate courses.
I was honoured to have been invited as the lead trainer to conduct the Johnson & Johnson Institue on Wheels (JJIW) vascular suturing course for the benefit the oncological surgeons at Malabar Cancer Centre.
Although I initially had some degree of uncertainty on how it would turn out, this quickly grew into a remarkable event where all participants had opportunities to learn and hone basic vascular suturing techniques in individual station desks.
From simple lateral stitches and parachuting techniques to end-to-end anastomosis, we discusssed many nuanced aspects of surgical technique and decision making.
To top it all, I had the famous Thalassery biriyani to satiate my gut!
Thank you @J&J and @MCC for organising this memorable day.
